Speaking & Professional Education
Making complex psychological concepts accessible, engaging, and immediately applicable.
For more than 25 years, I have helped individuals and professionals better understand the lasting impact of grief, trauma, anxiety, sexuality, identity, and the many forms of loss that shape our lives. Today, I bring that work beyond the therapy room through keynote presentations, professional trainings, workshops, and media interviews.
My presentations weave together clinical expertise, neuroscience, research, and lived experience — offering audiences practical ways to understand the emotional experiences that influence how we live, work, lead, and care for others.
Whether I’m speaking to healthcare professionals, mental health practitioners, educators, corporate leaders, or community organizations, my goal is the same: to make complex psychological concepts accessible, engaging, and immediately applicable.
I want audiences to leave with more than information. I want them to leave with a deeper understanding of themselves and the people they serve. Because when we understand the why behind our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, we create space for greater compassion, stronger relationships, and more meaningful change.
“Through every presentation, I invite people to rethink what they believe they know about grief, trauma, resilience, and healing.”

Speaker Biography
More than 25 years of clinical expertise brought to every stage.
Edy Nathan, MA, LCSW, CST, is a licensed psychotherapist, AASECT-certified sex therapist and sex educator, author, and international speaker specializing in grief, trauma, sexuality, and emotional healing. For more than thirty years, she has helped individuals, professionals, and organizations better understand the profound ways loss and trauma shape identity, relationships, and our experience of ourselves.
Known for combining clinical expertise with neuroscience, storytelling, and deep compassion, Edy invites audiences to rethink many of the assumptions we’ve inherited about grief and healing. She is the creator of the 11 Phases of Grief® — a nonlinear framework that expands the conversation beyond bereavement to include the many forms of loss we experience throughout life.
Her work also explores Sexual Grief®, helping individuals and professionals recognize the often-overlooked losses of safety, identity, intimacy, desire, and connection that can follow trauma, abuse, illness, or shame.
She has completed extensive postgraduate training in EMDR, Ericksonian hypnotherapy, family systems, and trauma-informed approaches influenced by leaders including Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, Dr. Stephen Porges, and Dr. David Schnarch. She has supervised therapists for more than 25 years and presents internationally to healthcare organizations, universities, professional associations, corporations, and community groups.
She is the author of It’s Grief: The Dance of Self-Discovery Through Trauma and Loss and It’s Grief: Notes to Self. Her forthcoming work continues to explore trauma, sexuality, identity, and post-traumatic growth, including The Liberation Protocol™.

Signature Keynotes
No two audiences are the same.
The presentations below represent my signature areas of expertise. Each can be delivered as a keynote, workshop, professional training, or interactive session — thoughtfully tailored to the goals, audience, and format of your event.
Drawing on current research, more than 25 years of clinical experience, and the power of storytelling, I create presentations that invite people to think differently about grief, trauma, healing, and the human experience.
My goal isn’t simply to share information. It’s to leave audiences with new understanding, meaningful insight, and conversations that continue long after the session has ended.
Whether you’re looking for a keynote speaker, workshop facilitator, podcast guest, or expert interview, I’d be honored to be part of the conversation.
I also develop custom presentations for organizations looking to explore specific topics related to grief, trauma, sexuality, resilience, identity, and emotional well-being.
When trauma doesn’t just wound, it occupies
Invisible No More
What if trauma isn’t simply something that happened to you? What if it’s something that continues to shape the way you think, relate, protect yourself, and experience the world long after the original event has passed?
Drawing on more than 25 years of clinical work, neuroscience, and lived experience, this presentation explores trauma not simply as an event, but as an ongoing relationship with yourself.
Audiences gain a deeper understanding of how trauma can influence identity, relationships, and the nervous system — often in ways that remain invisible until they’re finally understood. More importantly, they discover that healing doesn’t begin by erasing the past. It begins by understanding the extraordinary ways the mind and body learned to survive, creating the possibility of reclaiming safety, agency, connection, and a renewed relationship with oneself.

From captivity to thriving
The Liberation Protocol™
In this presentation, I introduce The Liberation Protocol™ — my therapeutic approach for helping individuals move from emotional captivity toward greater freedom, flexibility, and self-trust.
Rather than promising perfect healing, The Liberation Protocol™ offers a different perspective: healing is not about erasing the past. It is about understanding it. As we begin to recognize the protective strategies that once kept us safe, we create the opportunity to strengthen the relationship we have with ourselves, regulate the nervous system with greater intention, and move through life with increased resilience, choice, and possibility.
This presentation invites audiences to see healing not as a destination, but as an ongoing relationship with themselves — one grounded in curiosity, compassion, and the freedom to live beyond survival.

Why there is no closure, and what helps instead
Grief is Infinite
Grief isn’t a problem to solve or a chapter to close. It is a lifelong relationship that changes as we change. The question isn’t how to leave grief behind. The question is how to carry it without losing yourself.
In this presentation, I introduce the 11 Phases of Grief® — a framework that reimagines grief as a living, evolving relationship rather than a series of stages to complete. Together, we explore grief far beyond bereavement, including the losses that accompany illness, divorce, trauma, identity shifts, betrayal, infertility, career changes, and the countless ways life asks us to let go of what once was.
Audiences leave with a deeper understanding of how grief shapes the brain, the body, and our relationship with ourselves. More importantly, they discover that healing isn’t found in closure. It’s found in learning to live with loss in ways that allow love, meaning, connection, and possibility to continue alongside it.

When love meets the traumatic imprint
Couples Beyond Attachment
Every relationship brings together two unique histories, two nervous systems, and two sets of protective strategies. When trauma enters the relationship — even quietly — it can shape intimacy, sexuality, conflict, trust, and emotional safety in ways that neither partner fully understands.
In this presentation, I integrate attachment theory with trauma-informed practice to explore what happens when love meets the traumatic imprint. Rather than asking, ‘What’s wrong with this relationship?’ we begin asking a different question: ‘What happened that taught each of us to protect ourselves in this way?’
When we understand the why behind our reactions, blame gives way to curiosity, compassion begins to replace defensiveness, and new possibilities for connection emerge. Because while healthy relationships require communication, lasting change often begins with understanding ourselves and the experiences that shaped us long before we met one another.

The conversations we’re not having
Kink, Agency and Trauma
In this presentation, I offer a thoughtful, clinically grounded exploration of kink, sexual expression, trauma recovery, and personal choice — without judgment or sensationalism. Together, we’ll examine how agency develops, why consent is far more nuanced than a single ‘yes’ or ‘no,’ and how trauma can continue to influence sexuality long after the original experience has passed.
Rather than asking whether a particular expression of sexuality is healthy or unhealthy, I invite audiences to ask a different question: What does this experience mean for this individual? That shift from judgment to curiosity creates space for deeper understanding, more effective clinical care, and conversations that honor the complexity of human sexuality.
Whether you’re a mental health professional, healthcare provider, educator, or someone seeking a deeper understanding of sexuality and trauma, this presentation offers a compassionate, evidence-informed perspective on one of the most misunderstood areas of human experience.
